Tanya Lynch, professional genealogist and founder of Teach Me My Tree, smiling warmly in a red shirt.

Hi, I’m Tanya Lynch,

I help people find what their family history has been waiting to tell them through documented records, through inherited patterns, and through the quieter channel of ancestral wisdom that doesn't always show up in a census file.

Whether you've hit a brick wall in your research, feel the weight of something your family never quite talked about, or sense there's a story underneath the names and dates. You're in the right place.

The Research

I've been passionate about genealogy for more than 25 years, long before it became my profession. That depth of personal experience means I've encountered a wide range of research challenges, and I've developed the patience and instincts to move through them without wasting your time or money chasing the wrong leads. Since bringing this work into a professional practice in 2022, I've been able to dedicate myself to it fully with the rigor it deserves.

My academic foundation includes a Bachelor of Professional Studies and an Associate's degree in Advanced Family History Research from Brigham Young University — one of the most respected genealogy programs in the country. I've had the privilege of presenting at RootsTech, the world's largest genealogy conference, and my research has taken me across records from dozens of countries, ethnic communities, and time periods.

But what drives me isn't the credentials. It's the moment a client finally learns where their great-grandmother came from. Or discovers the truth behind a family story that never quite added up. Or holds a documented piece of their history for the very first time.

The Patterns

Over the years, I began noticing something in my research that the records alone couldn't explain: the same fears, the same silences, the same relationship dynamics repeating across generations like an echo no one had named.

This is what I've come to call generational patterns. It is the unspoken inheritance that travels through families not in documents, but in the way we love, fear, and relate to one another. Our ancestors’ experiences, survival strategies, and emotional patterns are passed down through our families, often without anyone realizing it. My deep study of this field led me to offer something most genealogists don't: ancestral pattern coaching and genogram facilitation.

A genogram is a visual map of your family's emotional and relational history, not just who was born and when, but what was carried and passed on. Together, we use it to help you recognize inherited patterns, separate what is yours from what was handed to you, and make conscious choices about what you want to carry forward.

This is coaching work, not therapy. I don't diagnose or treat. I help you gain awareness and build new perspectives. For deeper healing work, I'm happy to refer you to the right professional.

The Ancestral Connection

Alongside my research practice, I offer something more intuitive: the ability to tune into the energies and impressions of those who have passed what many call ancestral mediumship or intuitive ancestral readings.

I've always had a sensitivity to what I can only describe as the presence of ancestors — the feelings, fragments, and impressions they leave behind. Over time, I've learned to listen to that channel with care and intention.

Occasionally impressions that surface during a reading connect in meaningful ways to what genealogical records reveal. When that happens it can be a remarkable experience. But I offer readings and research as separate services and never claim that one will validate the other.

These readings are offered with honesty and humility. I don't claim certainty. I offer what I receive, and I let you decide what resonates.

What Brings It All Together

Whether you come to me for records, for patterns, or for connection — the thread running through all of it is the same: your ancestors have something to tell you. I'm here to help you hear it.

I'd love to help you begin.

My Approach

Every family history project begins with a one-hour consultation, not because it's a formality, but because your family is specific. Your questions, your brick walls, and your goals are different from everyone else's, and I want to understand all of it before I do a single search.

In that first hour, we'll talk about what you already know, what you most want to find out, and what a realistic research path looks like for your family. I'll send you a personalized Research Plan so you'll have a clear roadmap built around your history, your timeline, and your budget.

Every clue you can share matters. A name spelled differently. A town someone mentioned once. A story that might not be entirely true. These are the details that save time and open doors.

And sometimes, what begins as a search for names and dates becomes something more — a recognition of patterns, a sense of presence, a story that was waiting to be heard. Whatever brings you here, I'll meet you there.

Your family's story deserves to be found. I'd love to help you find it.
