Research Services
You have questions your family tree hasn't answered yet. I'll do the searching, the sourcing, and the finding then deliver everything in a clear, organized report that tells the story of what was discovered.
Best for: Anyone who wants a professional to do the searching, whether you're short on time, stuck on a difficult line, or ready for a deep investigation into your family's past.
What Professional Genealogy Research Looks Like
When you hire a professional genealogist to research your family, you are not just getting someone to search databases. You are getting a trained researcher who knows where records are kept, how to read them, how to evaluate their reliability, and how to follow leads that most people would never think to pursue.
Professional genealogy research is investigative work. It requires knowing which records exist for a given time and place, understanding historical context, recognizing when a document is hiding something, and building a case from multiple sources rather than relying on a single find. It is the difference between clicking through hints and actually solving the puzzle.
As a professional genealogist with academic credentials from Brigham Young University and 25 years of experience, I bring both formal training and deep practical knowledge to every research project. Every finding is documented, sourced, and delivered in a written report you can keep, share, and build on.
What I Research
I research families across a wide range of record types and geographic areas. Research may include census records, vital records including birth, marriage, and death certificates, church and parish registers, land and property records, probate and estate records, military service and pension records, immigration and naturalization records, passenger lists and ship manifests, city directories and newspapers, court records, and local historical records held in county courthouses and libraries.
I work with records from the United States with particular strength in the Midwest and Northeast, as well as records from the United Kingdom, Ireland, Germany, and other European countries of origin for American immigrant families.
For clients trying to find biological parents or unknown family members I combine traditional genealogical research methods with document requests from local courthouses, vital records offices, and other repositories to build the most complete picture possible.
What You Receive
Every research package includes a full written research report documenting everything discovered, every source consulted, and every lead followed. The report includes a summary of findings, copies or descriptions of key documents, source citations for every fact, a summary of questions that remain open, and recommended next steps for continued research.
You will always know exactly what was found, what was searched, and where to go next. Genealogy research is a process, even when a line proves difficult to trace, a thorough professional report gives you a solid foundation to build on.
A Note on Research Outcomes
Genealogy research is investigative by nature. I cannot guarantee that specific records will be found. Some records no longer exist, some have never been digitized, and some families simply left fewer traces than others. What I can guarantee is thoroughness, honesty, and every lead followed as far as it will go. If a line proves difficult, I will tell you why and what options remain.

Frequently Asked Questions
| How do I know which package is right for me? | It depends on what you are trying to find and how much is already known. A single focused question like finding a great-grandparent's birthplace might be answerable in four hours. A multi-generational investigation of an immigrant family line might need twenty. When in doubt reach out and we'll talk it through before you commit to anything. |
| Can you help me find a biological parent or unknown family member? | Yes. This is one of the most meaningful types of research I do. Using traditional genealogical methods, document requests from courthouses and vital records offices, and careful analysis of existing records, I build the most complete picture possible of an unknown biological connection. |
| What if the records I need don't exist online? | Many of the most important genealogical records are not online. I work with local courthouses, libraries, historical societies, and archives to request records directly when needed. This is one of the most important differences between professional research and a self-directed database search. |
| Do you research families outside the United States? | Yes. I have experience with records from the United Kingdom, Sweden, and Norway. These records are exceptionally well preserved and can yield remarkable results for families researching their Nordic roots. However, I am not limited to these countries. Every family is different and I am always willing to learn the records of a new region to follow your family's story wherever it leads. |
| How long does research take? | Once a project begins I typically complete research within two to four weeks depending on the complexity of the question and my current schedule. I will give you a realistic timeline when we discuss your project. |
| What happens after the research is complete? | You receive your full written report by email. Many clients then book a coaching session to walk through the findings together, or move on to a Genogram Coaching package to explore the patterns in what was discovered, or commission a Legacy Letter to transform the research into a story worth keeping. |
